Allergies

From food allergies to plant allergies, a myriad everyday items can cause you to sneeze, break out in a rash, or develop itchy eyes. No matter the cause of your allergy symptoms, the doctors at Otolaryngology Plastic Surgery Associates can diagnose and treat the issue.

We offer both allergy treatment and allergy testing in Doylestown, PA, so whether you already know what you’re allergic to or would like to find out, you can count on our doctors to help you out.

Allergy Testing

There are two types of allergy tests. The first, and more common, involves putting an allergen extract on your skin and then scratching your skin to allow the allergen to get underneath. If you are allergic to the substance, your skin will get red and inflamed as your immune system tries to fight it off. Although this type of allergy test may cause some discomfort, it delivers fast results.

However, a skin test is not always the best option. For some people, a blood test is the best method for diagnosing allergies. For this test, the doctor draws your blood and has it tested. In a few days, your doctor will have your results, and you can proceed with your allergy treatment plan from there.

Allergy Treatment

Figuring out the source of your allergies is only the first step. You must also come up with a plan to manage your symptoms. Possible solutions include:

  • Taking medication. This works well for seasonal allergies and allergies to other triggers that you come into contact with on a regular basis.
  • Avoiding the trigger. Although avoidance is always best, it’s not always feasible. However, this method does work well for food-related allergies.
  • Immunotherapy. This treatment involves exposing the patient to small amounts of the allergen, gradually desensitizing them to it.

Because every allergy and every individual is unique, we will work with you to figure out the best treatment for you.
